Looking toward Feldkirch, Austria.
In Feldkirch, a medieval city,
where we had lunch.
From Feldkirch, we drove to Innsbruck. This is a view near
the entrance to our hotel in Innsbruck looking up at the Alps.
The Inn River in Innsbruck
Innsbruck is the capital city of Tyrol in
western Austria and the fifth-largest
city in Austria. It is in the Inn Valley.

popular most everywhere in the world, it seems.
In Old Town Innsbruck, a building from 1577, yet houses a
Hard Rock Cafe. Innsbruck was the imperial capital of the
Hapsburg Empire in the 1490s.

The Hofkirche (Court Church), a Gothic church located
in the Altstadt
(Old Town). Built in 1553 by Emperor
Ferdinand I as a memorial to his
grandfather Emperor
Maximilian I, whose cenotaph has a collection of
German Renaissance sculpture.
The cenotaph is made of black marble.
The Hofburg (Imperial Palace) is a former Habsburg
palace in Innsbruck.
The Hofburg is the main
building of a large residential complex once used by
the Habsburgs. Today, the Hofburg contains five
themed
museum areas
that illustrate various
aspects of the political and cultural history of the
former
imperial palace, which remained in the
possession
of the Habsburgs for more
than 450 years.
The Goldenes Dachl (Golden Roof) is a landmark
structure located in the Old
Town section. It is
considered the city's most famous symbol. Completed
in
1500, the roof was decorated with 2,657
fire-gilded copper tiles for Emperor
Maximilian I to mark his wedding to Bianca
Maria Sforza.
The Emperor and his
wife used the balcony to observe festivals,
tournaments,
and other events
that took place in the square below.
We took the Nordkettenbahn funicular up to 7,400 feet,
where
we did a short hike to take in the beautiful panorama
of the
surrounding mountains. This photo was taken from the
funicular,
looking down on the Inn River and Innsbruck.
