Indonesia: Java, Bali, and Komodo Islands - September 10 - October 2, 2017
Part Two - Bali, Indonesia
Page Three - Sudamala Temple and Travel to Ubud, Bali
The morning of September 19, we left Candidasa and headed for Ubud, Bali.
One of the stops along the way was seeing a family that makes salt.
Making salt from sea water is a traditional livelihood in the Amed area.
Nowadays only a couple small communities, namely at Amed village and
Jemeluk, still make salt, near Mt. Agung, Bali's sacred mountain.
The water from the sea is dropped into the soil and raked and left to dry.

Sudamala Hindu Temple. A Hindu priest conducted a purification ceremony,
using water from the temple's holy spring. This ceremony is believed to
provide spiritual cleansing.
Figure at the temple. I don't think the cigarette was intended to be part of
the statue.
8 of our group of 16 participated in the wet part of the Hindu purification
ceremony. Everyone participated in the second part, the dry part. Our Bali
local guide, Darma, is on the right.
Each person went up to the spout behind Darma, wet face and head first,
then was supposed to totally get wet. I chose at this point to just wet my
face and head. The water was cold!
Area where we stood under the water to get completely soaked again. This
time, I did get totally soaked.
Heading to have the Hindu priest conduct
the dry part of the purification ceremony.

entrance to the resort is on a very busy street in the congested
city of Ubud that has a lot of tourists and is an artistic center for Bali.
